Sizing Goalie Pads
Before playing goalie, you will need to find your perfect pad size. This is extremely important as improperly sized equipment can not only hinder your performance but also cause injury. If your pads are too small, you could be leaving many areas exposed. On the other hand if the pads are too big, you will feel clunky on the ice and have difficulty moving. Proper fitting equipment should protect your entire leg and knee areas while keep you mobile.
The size of pads is dependent on 3 different measures:
- Boot size – determined by the size of the Goalie skate
- Ankle to Knee – length from the top of the ankle to the kneecap
- Knee to Thigh – length from the kneecap to the middle of the thigh area (normally 7″ to 8″)
Take these three measures, and add them together to determine your proper size of pads.
